OSHL - Executive Committee Announce Team/School District Realignment

The Executive Committee of the Ohio Scholastic Hockey League, in an effort to provide a more equitable balance to the number of players available to each of the core Columbus area teams, has realigned the player district assignments for those teams. This re-districting will go into effect immediately for the upcoming 2018-19 season. The new boundaries are outlined in the attached table.

All new players who have never played in the OSHL must tryout for their assigned teams based upon the new re-districting. Players currently playing in the league are grandfathered to their current organization from the previous district assignment, however, if they so choose, these players may tryout and play for their newly districted organization. Note, this is a ONE-TIME choice that may only be made prior to tryouts for the upcoming 2018-19 season; otherwise the player will remain with their current organization for the remainder of their high school eligibility.

Any younger siblings of current/active players remaining with their original organization will be granted the choice to play with their new assignment or join their older sibling(s) when they become age eligible to participate in the OSHL. This choice will be available to all younger sibling so long as there is an older sibling(s) still playing in a grandfathered position. For example, if a current player has a sibling that will be a freshman when they are a senior, the younger player may choose to play with the older player. If there is another younger player in the same family that will be a freshman when the middle sibling is a junior, then that player may also choose to play for the grandfathered team. If, however, both older players graduate before the youngest reaches high school age, then the youngest player must play for the newly districted team. Once a sibling makes this choice, they must complete their high school career with that association.

Any questions from players or parents regarding these changes should be directed to their current OSHL team representatives.

Sincerely,

Doug
